In 2006 construction work started. The target was to develop the location and create a landmark logistics hub located on the crossroads of the dual motorway axis, the Tauern and Baltic-Adriatic Axis. A cooperation with the NAPA was intended to advance the development of a hinterland hub. Here the Austrian Railways (ÖBB) operate a large marshalling yard and a freight handling station with an attached logistics centre (transshipment of containers, swap bodies and semi-trailers), a terminal of Rail Cargo.

Rail connection for the goods industry
The Kühnsdorf industrial and commercial area is located in close proximity to the Kühnsdorf railway station and is of particular interest to Freight forwarding sectors. Regional actors or the municipalities of the district of Völkermarkt have been striving for years to develop an inter-municipal, rail-oriented industrial and commercial park (IGP Jauntal) with a focus on logistics. The project, which is planned on an area of approx. 30 ha, is geared towards the new construction of the Koralm railway and the associated preservation of the Kühnsdorf freight loading station. In addition, the site is to function as a logistics centre with logistics service providers for various companies in the region.
